Since winning the 1995 Pinnacle Award, the Human Resource Association of Greater Oak Brook has been designated as a Superior Merit Chapter by the Society for Human Resource Management for years 1995 through 2009. Thanks to the generosity of chapters like yours (along with state councils, individuals, and corporate supporters), we have been able to maintain our high level of fundraising over the past couple of years, in spite of the economic trends. The funds we raise from our annual campaign are used for scholarship programs, academic research grants, and educational products that advance the HR profession. Thank you! Who We Are
Founded in 1970, HRA provides professional development and networking opportunities for association members and other human resource professionals, practitioners, consultants, vendors and students. HRA is an association of human resource professionals, representing many business and non-profit organizations. Currently, we serve over 125 individual members and represent over 100 business and non-profit organizations in the greater Oak Brook area and other Chicago-area suburbs.
HRA is managed by an elected Board of Directors, and its purposes are:
- To provide a medium of exchange for information regarding common problems among local human resources professionals.
- To advance the understanding of the principles of HR management through educational programs.
- To encourage the establishment of local human resource professionals

HRA is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Local Chapter 212. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries, the Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China and India.
Membership in HRA and SHRM is distinct and separate, although HRA members are encouraged to join SHRM for additional information and career development needs.
HRA's student chapter affiliation is with Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois, and known as Elmhurst College Human Resource Association (ECHRA), SHRM Student Chapter #5472.
